An Unexpected Recipient

This entry has been written from an ‘out of character’ perspective to discuss a live event handing out something surprising…

An interesting if seemingly minor live event has just taken an interesting turn.  I’m not sure if there was an actual live event to go with this, but yesterday an RP news piece was issued describing the hijacking of an Ishukone Watch Scorpion.  It wouldn’t be the first time that such an event has happened in EVE’s long history, but what caught my eye was the type of ship.

The Ishukone Watch Scorpion was intended to be the first custom ship paint skin that players were going to be able to purchase through the NeX store for Aurum – a microtransaction, same as we can do for character clothing.  However its release has been long delayed by both CCP’s withdrawal from pushing the NeX store (post-Summer of Rage) and by the length of time it has taken to complete the V3 ship textures project (necessary for adding player corp logo’s to ships).  Although it has existed for a couple of years now, the art asset never made it into the game.  So when I saw that news piece yesterday I wondered if it might be an elaborate tease or if CCP have made some progress on the ship skinning front.

What I was not expecting was today’s update.  Apparently, CCP’s event team have gone and handed the ship over to a player character in a player corp!  Didn’t see that coming! 🙂

Interestingly, the news piece states that the recipient, Jack DuVal, currently has an inactive account.  I don’t know anything about Jack or his corp Viperfleet Inc. but I imagine that he will be rushing to re-sub once he hears that he is currently sitting on the only Ishukone Watch Scorpion currently in player hands!  I wonder what it will fetch at auction…

EDIT – Reportedly Jack DuVal was the Poker Tournament winner at Fanfest 2012 and his selection may be related to that.  A belated prize indeed!
